NVIDIA has rolled out two new entry-level GPUs for notebooks – GeForce MX310 and MX110. The two chips are based on NVIDIA’s Maxwell GPU architecture and are manufactured on a 28nm process node. NVIDIA is claiming that the new GeForce MX110 is 1.5 times faster in games compared to the latest Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics, while the GeForce MX130 is said to be 2.5 times faster. The GeForce MX150, based on NVIDIA’s latest Pascal architecture, is four times faster than Intel’s IGP solution.

While NVIDIA hasn’t revealed the complete spec sheet of the two new mobile GPUs, it is likely that the MX110 and MX130 are both simply rebranded GeForce 920MX and 940MX GPUs.  A listing on the Dell Accessories product page suggests the GeForce MX130 features a total of 384 CUDA cores clocked at 1189 MHz, identical to the GeForce 940MX. The MX110, on the other hand, features a total of 256 CUDA cores, although the core clock hasn’t been confirmed just yet. It is likely that the GPU features the same 965 MHz core clock and 993 MHz boost clock as the 920MX. As a result, the “new” MX110 and MX130 should be almost identical in terms of performance as the 920MX and 940MX GPUs, respectively.

The two new GPUs offer support for NVIDIA features like Optimus, GPU Boost 2.0, and GeForce Experience. They also support DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5, as well as NVIDIA GameWorks. While the two GPUs definitely offer superior performance to Intel’s latest onboard graphics, they will certainly feel the heat from AMD’s Ryzen mobility chips that feature Vega graphics. Intel too will soon start using AMD graphics in its upcoming mobile chips, although they are likely to be restricted to the higher-end H-series chips aimed at more expensive notebooks. The GeForce MX110 and MX130 are geared towards more affordable notebooks. We expect the first notebooks featuring NVIDIA’s newest mobile GPUs to hit the market early next year.
